Underground Reading Series
Hidden Staircase’s Underground Reading Series is an ongoing group of staged
readings of the plays in our upcoming season as well as any plays that we are
considering for future productions. For this unique series, the performances are
free of charge and are staged in the site-specific atmosphere of the homes of
our extremely generous local fellow artists. Each reading is book-ended by a
small gathering with refreshments where we can become acquainted with our
audience, and indeed, the audience members can network amongst themselves. The
readings are essentially fulfilling a two-fold concept: we are revisiting the
ideals of several decades ago, when art was done for art's sake, where the best
work was often seen at gatherings in the basements and backyards and living
rooms of the artists themselves and their supporters, and we are also providing
the rare opportunity to glimpse the seed of our upcoming productions. The
Underground Reading Series is available by special invitation to a small and
growing community of fellow artists and supporters of our work as a company. If
