Founders:

Rachel Handshaw- Rachel is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College, and has also received training from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, the British American Drama Academy, and the Actors Center. Her recent New York credits include The Living (Stone Soup Theatre Arts), A Kite Cut Loose in the Middle of the Sky (Nicu’s Spoon), Schooled and Unschooled (Panoply Theatre Lab), 365 Plays/365 Days (Genesius Theatre Group), Bash (The Producers Club), Syllogism (Theatre Studio Inc.), and The Maids (Workshop Theatre). Regionally, she has appeared at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and in School for Devils, Beauty and the Beast, and The Hairy Ape as part of the Hangar Theatre Lab Company.
 

Erin Salm- Erin is a graduate of Temple University’s Theater and Music Departments in Acting and Vocal Performance. She has also studied at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, Terry Schreiber Studios, and is an Actor Combatant in single sword, broadsword and shield, and quarterstaff. Her notable previous credits include Kate/Mother (u/s Winesburg Ohio) at the Arden Theatre Company, Jenny (u/s Harry Chapen: Remember When the Music...), Woman #2 (u/s Personals) at Act II Playhouse, Roberta (Danny and the Deep Blue Sea), the Nurse (Romeo and Juliet), the Duke (Measure for Measure), Lucy (You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown) and Collector's Items which she arranged and directed. Erin is currently directing Stupid Plans Poorly Executed at the Turtleshell Theater.


Artistic Associate:

Evelyn Gaynor- Evelyn Gaynor was last seen on stage as Annelle in Steel Magnolias. Upcoming projects: the independent film, "Flick's Chicks" due out this spring, The Three Sisters. Evelyn has her BFA in Acting from Syracuse University.

Founded in February 2009, Urban Shakespeare is a theatre company dedicated to bringing the works of Shakespeare to audiences with limited access to professional theatrical performances. In providing modern retellings of classic stories, Urban Shakespeare's mission is to use the Bard's plays to highlight issues in our modern age.
